Hmm.
The following Nautilus snapshot:

shows a widget at the top (the "View as Icons" widget) which looks
suspiciously as if it'd be an option menu/pop-up menu/pop-up menu
button/pop-up-button/whatever they decide to call it if, as, and when
they do MacOS XI :-), and which has the two-triangle item on it.
Have the Eazel folk either
1) done a theme (or installed a theme) that uses that
combination rather than that bizarre raised bar that Motif
uses and that I assume GTK+ picked up from Motif
or
2) done a widget for that purpose?
