Probably a lot of your concerns are addressed by the new .defs format
(James is using this for gnome-python), and also by GTK 1.3.x
(e.g. GdkPixmap, GdkDrawable, etc. are now GObjects and thus the
inheritance structure is visible to the defs file generator).

I would suggest wrapping GTK 1.3.x, by the time you finish Java/gnome
it will be the current version, and it binds to languages much more
nicely since the GDK objects are GObjects with virtual functions,
instead of plain structs.
