it would be a good idea to convert the calendar over to
1) ease maintainance/avoid code duplication
2) give people usage examples of the glib date API (there aren't so many
   out there that i'm aware of at least)


so if anyone has the time and nerve to do this, patches will be much
apprechiated.

disclaimer: it's been a while since i looked at either code, so i'm not
            very clear on how much to convert there actually is.
