Scott Berkun (former UI designer on IE4/5) posted a mail about
autocompletion on the ACM CHI-WEB list the other day, explaining how and
why they changed the history list behaviour between IE4 and IE5... I
know that's a rather specialised case of a combo box, but you might find
it interesting anyway:
