The GPL is designed such that it protects the rights of his customers.

He is perfectly in his right to deny request for source from people
which
hasn't obtained a license for such sw or in this case which hasn't
obtained
a license to use his sw.

HE CAN'T deny his customers access to the source of his GDK library 
or dito for the belonging display server.

This is my reading of the GPL !
