moving FAQ into reference docs

Hi,

I'd like to do several things at once:

 - move the FAQ into the reference manual, so that it's easy to find, 
   but more importantly so answers can have cross-references into 
   the docs (many answers should simply be a link to some docs 
   we ought to have or even do have)
 - rework answers for GTK 2 when appropriate
 - organize the questions into smaller groups (e.g. X11 backend, win32
   backend, text editing/display, widgets in general, memory
   management, list/tree, menus, etc.)

Basically I'd like to use the FAQ in part as an index tool to help
people get started on the reference manual.
