For what it's worth, with the current version of GDK and GTK on my
machine, I don't notice any resource leak in that program. At least
not on Win2k. 

Your original Makefile doesn't use the -fnative-struct flag. Could
this cause the problem? Or are you building simple.exe as a Cygwin
program, but still use the non-Cygwin GTK+ and GLib DLLs? That is not
even supposed to work.
