Hi folks:

We (but mostly Calum Benson, Peter Korn, and a couple of other folks
involved in both HCI and accessibility) have been investigating what 
Windows, Java, and GTK do, regarding keybindings for widgets... 

Calum's not quite done tabulating this, and I don't think
he's online this weekend.  But we can post what we have so far on
the Gnome Accessibility Project pages on Monday morning... I believe
the first two columns are done, maybe you all can help us finish
the GTK+ column and decide what changes might be advisable in GTK+
2.0.

We have been in touch with Mozilla about this too, ideally we can 
coordinate our efforts to maximize the consistency between keybindings
across apps.  From an accessibility point of view it's especially 
important that keybindings are consistent and that they don't clash... 
but it's a significant usability issue for all users.

Probably the ideal case would be to have completely themable
keybindings,
so the emacs-ers would still be happy ;-) and via themes we could
create
consistent keybindings that were suited to accessibility.  In some
cases as I pointed out, the ideal keybindings for a limited-mobility
scenario might be different from the majority preferences.
