CVS compile error involving libtool

I get the following error when trying to compile a recent (~3PM 3/12/01)
CVS version of glib:

/bin/sh ../libtool --mode=link gcc  -g -O2 -Wall -D_REENTRANT  -o libgplugin_a.la -rpath /home/rsteinke/lib -rdynamic -avoid-version -module  libgplugin_a.lo -ldl   libgmodule-1.3.la  
libtool: link: error: cannot link shared libraries into libtool libraries

Any idea what's going on?
