Well, the point is to do it silently in the library, so that
applications don't know about it and just get it "for free". Then you
don't have to worry about applications "supporting" it. That's the
point of the proposal, really. If you have to rely on the application
writer to "support it", you've already lost, and it is a toy, as you
say.
