You might want to summarize here what the Quartz project is, without assuming
that people already know.

And also give a slightly better explanation at the SourceForge head page about it :)

A bit longer: Quartz is the graphic's backend of MacOS X. It contains the window manage and the CoreGraphics graphic API. We can currently already use GTK+ on OS X using XFre86, however, the goal is to get GTK apps running without X-Window, since the avarage MacOS X has no X-Window installed.


To this goal, we will have to write a new backend for GDK, besides some other things. This will actually involve much more of the OS X API than just Quartz, e.g. for input handling (keyboard, mouse etc.), something which is my profession more than the graphics stuff :)


I think you guys will get a lot of questions from us in the near future if we fail to understand something in the internal workings of GDK/GTK :)
