Your suggestion is a bit more general, which is interesting. I don't
think we want both features (PangoMarkup and the general format), most
likely. Maybe we do. Basically I've thought "that might be nice" but
haven't given any thought to what the right design would be.

Anyhow, feel free to get on the CC list for that bug and/or add
comments to it, if you want to track its progress or affect its
progress.

We'd probably use GMarkup rather than libxml for the parsing, since
it's a small parser already in GLib.
