While the point of your email is a good one in general, the Tree View
actually draws it's expanders explicitly.  You can resize this one by
doing:

style "treeview-style" {
  GtkTreeView::expander_size=20
}
class "GtkTreeView" style "treeview-style"

It does highlight that it's not honoring the size correctly; but that's
just a small bug that needs fixing.
