A little slow? I imagine performance with a set of thousands of fonts
would be somewhat painful.
Very few monospaced fonts bother to set any of the various TrueType
monospaced hints; I went so far in Fontconfig as to stop bothering to check
because I'd end up with empty lists using that property.
Of course, now that fontconfig actually looks at every glyph in every font
to determine accurate Unicode coverage, perhaps it could check their
widths to see if the font is monospaced. Hmm.
