get focus for gtk/gnome dialog box

Hi everyone:

   Sometimes a dialog box is hidden by other windows.
It looks like the dialog box can't be popped up. I
used the function:

 gtk_window_activate_focus((GtkWindow *)
view_layers_dialog);

   It still didn't make the dialog box appear on top
of other windows. Can some one help?
