Hi Owen, 

Something tells me this will be another FAQ similar to how you get the
menu item label question which was frequent prior to GTK 2.4 (not sure
if it has changed in 2.4?).  It IMO is not intuitive to new comers,
shouldn't there be a convenience API for this?
