glib-2.4.2 child-test failure

When running tests/child-test on HP-UX 11.x, Solaris 2.5.1-9, AIX
4.3.x, 5.x, and IRIX 6.5, it hangs:
  $ cd tests
  $ ./child-test
  child 19773 (ttl 10) exited, status 0

On HP-UX 10.20, Tru64 UNIX, Redhat Linux, and Redhat Enterprise
Linux, it works fine.

Any ideas?
