eggtrayicon vs gtkstatusicon

  I have deprecated egg.trayicon in the python bindings, but apparently
developers are not happy[1] because gtk.StatusIcon does not provide
enough functionality to replace it.

  Are there any plans to improve gtk.StatusIcon, or will we always need
trayicon for the more advanced tray icon use cases?
