Both those problems look like this cairo bug (endianness problem on
intel macs): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8939. There is
a patch attached which fixes the problem.
Regarding the experimental state of the port, there are still some
pretty major bugs that need to be fixed before that changes (most
noticably buggy menus and some event and font handling).
There has been some interest from people wanting to help out creating
frameworks of GTK+ & co, but it's a lot of work and nobody is working on
that right now, as far as I know.
