Its imho, correct, but does break API which some users have started
using. I'd like to change this, but I'm not sure if that is acceptable
at this point.
feel free to break API and ABI all the way throughout development versions,
as long as the next stable branch ist ABI and backwards compatible with
the last stable branch.
after all, that's what development releases are for (and what they are
named after, so no user can complain about interface breakage as long as
it's in *development*).
