PANGO and Xft

Hi,
    I am currently maintaining the Tamil module for  Pango.I checked out
glib,Pango anf gtk+ yesterday in the CVS and hacked them to get them
compiled.I see that gtk+ is usinf Xft which is installed in my system
and the config.h in gtk+ source has #define HAVE_XFT and I can see that
all the gtk+ programs are now linked with Xrender and Xft.

    No how do I test the Xft support for the basic characters
atleast??Do I have to download any fonts for the basic characters??How
should I change XftConfig?? Or is there to be a pangoxft.aliases??

    Basically I have a TTF font ready for the Tamil module but there are
these two issues :

    1) I don't understand  how to use pango_xft_font_get_face and get
the corresponding Tamil TTF
            font face

    2) How am I going to get a test program using pango-xft ??
