problem compiling

Hi all,
I downloaded the 120197 GTK today. Did a configure - followed by a
make. The build starts to error out as follows:
in file included
from gdk.h:22
from gdk.c:45
../gdk/gdktypes.h:22:wchar.h:no such file or directory
The install is going on a RH4.2 box. How can I fix this? Thanks.
