Prob with compiling gtk+

Hello,

I have a problem. When I try to compile the gtk+ toolkit for the gimp I get
the following message:

steve@ysgard:~/tmp/gtk+971025 > configure

I have gcc 2.7.2 and a 2.0.31 kernel. I tried to execute the configure script
on the linux box of a friend. There it worked fine:
.
.
.
checking whether the C compiler (gcc -g -O2 -DNDEBUG ) is a cross-compiler...
no

.

I have no idea how to turn off the "cross-compiling" and I can't remember
that
I have installed something like a cross-compiler. Does anyone have an
idea how to turn it off?

Thanx!

Ciao
        Steffen
