Actually, you just found a bug in the tutorial. Like all
signals ending in _event (and a few others), "delete_event"
takes three arguments.
Try changing,
> void delete_event (GtkWidget *widget, gpointer data)
to
void delete_event (GtkWidget *widget, GtkEvent *event, gpointer data)
