Overriding default handlers for GTK_RUN_FIRST signals

I posted a few days ago about overriding the default handlers
and Owen posted an informative and useful response for overriding
signals that are installed GTK_RUN_LAST, but is there any
way to override a GTK_RUN_FIRST signal?
