Answer: Distrbute binaries, or tell your users to get a C++ compiler (that
supports C++).

gcc 2.7.x is really very out of date for C++.  Huge sections of the
standard C++ library can not even be compiled properly (i.e the STL).
Can you imagine using a C compiler that couldn't compile, say, printf()?
That's what using gcc for C++ is like.

Just my two cents - I have nothing to do with the Gtk-- development
team.
