GtkText and line numbers

Hi,

has anybody experience with line number indices in GtkText? Basically I
need to know (from the GtkText object) things like:

*) current line number
*) total line numbers
*) the first character position in a given line (addressed by a line
number index)
*) the last character position in a given line (addressed by a line
number index)

Any help is greatly appreciated.
