oh sure ... why not rewrite everything ...

why the fuck are people so afraid to use libraries? ... that's why
they are there ... to be used ... to make programming things easier
...

if people used glib and other such libs when they need them ... we would
have less bloat, bot to mention more easily maintainable code ... and
definately safer code ... 

if I do my own range checking ... I'm not gonna trust it as much as glib's,
that's because glib has been debugged and checked more then whatever I'm
writing ...  so I'm prolly gonna have more bugs ... AND to top it all off,
each app will have it's own implementations of things loaded in ram ...
hey ... it's just like static linking ...

glib IS portable ... and you won't spend your time reinventing the wheel
