Are you sure, that ./configure was satisified with the state of your
system? I seem
to remember that C++ under gcc 2.7.2.x didn't support all the features
Gtk-- needed.
I know for a fact that gcc 2.8.1 and egcs 2.91.57 and 2.91.66 work OK and I
also know
for a fact the the compiler shipped with RH5.2 (2.7.2.x) didn't work OK
with Gtk--. You
might want to try upgrading to one of these newer compilers. First though,
be sure to re-check
the configure output and config.log, it should tell you more

Subject: [gtk-list] Compiling error with Gtk- - 1.0.1
Hello:
Help please!
I failed to install gtk--1.0.1. An error is from compiling ctree.cc during
make process. Included you should find the error message. It seems to me
that the configuration process is satisfied with my computer state and
complier. In other words, I did not find any error shown in the output of
the configuration process. A summary of my computer state is as follows:
1. Red Hat 5.0 distribution
2. Glib 1.2.2
3. Gtk+ 1.2.2
4. gcc 2.7.2.3
Another information I would like you know is that I installed Gtk--1.0.0 on
the same machine successfully. However I failed to compile example
directory
and Hello World program.
I am willing to provide any other information that could lead the problem
resolved. As always, I appreciate any help.
