gtk ./configure

Hi all,

   Failed configuring gtk+-1.2.2

   ./configure screen says

   configure:error:
   *** X libraries or include files not found. Check 'config.log' for
   *** more details.
   =============================

   In config.log it says
   =============================
   configure:4947:checking for X
   configure:5014:gcc -E conftest.c>/dev/null 2>conftest.out	
   configure:5010:X11/Intrinsic.h:No such file or directory
   =============================

   Where can I get the file Intrinsic.h ?
   I am running Debian GNU/Linux 2.1

   Some pointers please.
