Expression renderer in gdk

	I've started to program a function that renders a mathematical
expression with gdk to a drawable, in LaTeX style. 
	
	In order to draw exponentials, fractions, etc, I have to keep
changing the size of the font, so I load many fonts with gdk_font_load
with different sizes. This turned out to be very slow.. :(

	So, I ask for advice of what would the best way to accomplish my
task. I've thought about GnomeCanvas, but I've never used it and don't
really know its capabilities.
