For those users/developers whose have made the "leap" and
are now knee deep in gnome, it is, as you imply, no big
deal, and the Gtk is simply a foundation component. However,
for those who are not so inclined, Gnome and Gtk remain
distinct entities, and use of the latter should not mandate
use of the former (especially for such singular needs).

There is nothing "wrong" with it (at least in this context),
and it does make your life as a programmer easier, IF you
choose to endorse the additional libraries as part of your
appliation's requirements/dependency list. There are reasons
you may not want to do this, however, and it seems logical
to me that something like GnomeCanvas might eventually be
gotten through Gtk. Not essential, but definitely logical.
