Hi,
My ${sysconfdir} IS /etc. Could you please tell me which source file
should I read to get more information about these new config files?

That's why I wrote ${sysconfdir}. If you compiled gtk+-2.x from source
and you did not specify the directory for configuration files, gtk+
will look in ${prefix}/etc, where ${prefix} is by default /usr/local.
If you are unsure, strace a gtk+ application and check which files it
tries to access.
