As suggested many times before, have a look into
http://appsfromscratch.berlios.de/build.first_run.log.txt
file and look for CPPFLAGS, LDFLAGS, LD_LIBRARY_PATH in it
- you'll see real life examples how to use the variables with
'configure'.
