You are right, so I tried this some time ago without adding a second 
widget.  The dividing control is still displayed which was not what I 
wanted.  Perhaps if I'd used hide() it would have worked.  This is just an 
example.  It doesn't reflect what my code does at all except to highlight 
the problem.
