How to stop a radio control emitting a clicked signal?

I have a GUI app built around the MVC concept - but I'm having trouble
with gtk emitting a clicked signal whenever I call set_active on my
Gtk::RadioButton. I really don't see why gtk should throw a clicked
signal at me when I've changed the value progamatically. Can anyone
offer any help? TIA. :)
