Thanks for the link, I haven't read the documentation till this passage...
now the program works fine and the code is:
a_CheckButtons[i-1]->signal_clicked().connect
(
~ sigc::bind<int>
~ ( sigc::mem_fun(*this, &Preferences::on_checkbutton_clicked), i )
);
