sure it's a good idea!! The API are as stable as the C libraries,
gnome-python-* follows gnome schedule for all API addition, freeze and
friends.

I'm the one that has written most of the gnome-python-* doc that you
can find and I'm not aware of other people working on it.
So you are more then welcome to join :)
