[LIBART] compiling from cvs

I am trying to compile libart from gnome cvs.  It complains about some
missing files (like configure.h.in) and if I run aclocal, automake -a,
autoconf enough times I get a configure script.  But the makefile goes
into an infinite loop.

How can I make this work?  Has the horizontal fill to edge bug been
fixed yet?
