They already *are* directories:
~% ls -l /tmp
ls: /tmp/FILMY: Input/output error
total 19
drwxrwxr-x 1 alpha alpha 4096 2002-10-09 23:03 maciek
'FILMY' is unavailable share, 'maciek' is available share.
