RedHat 9 and MC

hello,
I am using mc-4.6.0-4 on RH 9 ; I am working in the Gnome Desktop  ; Always 
, when  I start MC
from terminal (console) and
afterwards exit mc, if lines of text were displayed on the screen
then MC returns to little after the beginnig of these lines, instead
to the end (as is in rh 8 / rh 7.3).
Does anybody know how to overcome this problem ?
