actually, you can make xterm send something distinct for 
control/shift/enter, though it may be difficult to configure mc to use the 
feature effectively.
Anyway, I just use ctrl-x p (not ctlr-x ctrl-p) to get the fullpath for 
the current panel directory and then alt-enter for the filename.
