I'm sorry, but Meld 1.3.1 is really much too old to support any more.
Please try 1.6.0, which you can get from http://meldmerge.org. I
believe that the only currently open bug for errors with Git has to do
with file permission changes:
    https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=655315
If, after upgrading, you still get this error, and you're not seeing
the above problem, then please file a new bug report.
