I do use GConf HEAD ( 0.10 ) and i do still get the errors.
It's the gconf_engine_new(); call in gnome-vfs-mime-handlers.c;
As far as my eyes don't lie GConf now uses gconf_engine_get_default()
 do get the default engine; I had to do it also for libgtranslator, so
  I guess it's now gconf_engine_get_default().
