[Nautilus-list] problem with GConf

I just installed Nautilus and when I try to run it I get the following
problem:
GConf error: No database to store value at key
'/apps/nautilus/defaults/novice/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_hidden_files'
All further errors shown only in terminal.
It then spits out many more errors like that in the terminal and stops
doing anything.
