Isn't that implemented yet?! I remember, I got that idea on GUADEC-1, when 've
seen "Ettore mode" - invoking gnome-terminal looked like a real "hacker's" mode.

I guess, someone made a bonobo component for gnome-terminal for that purpose - 
so - is it in use now or the idea was berried alone?

Another idea I got then - an equivalent of "magnify glass" in the browser screen.
Having ability to change the size of icon to see details is nice, but sometimes
you just need to look thoroughly at the files details, so changing the size of
all the icons will be just a waste of time and desktop space. In this case a
"magnify glass" can be nifty - small window, for example, that shows more details
of underlying icon. You can drag it over all the icons to see their details
magnified. I think, invocation of such a window can be done via some key shortcut.

In fact, it can be standalone application, that should interact with nautilus
bonobized components...
