I fully agree with this. Even after using Nautilus all day, every day
for a month, I still find myself double clicking on files to open them
up and work on the contents. It's a hard habit to break.

A "save preference" button could be placed on the pop up dialog
Christopher mentioned that would allow the user to save their "open
with" application preferences for that MIME type, eliminating the dialog
from appearing every time they click on a text file and know they want
to edit it in Emacs. In the case of an HTML file where you might opt
for either a text editor or a web browser, you could use the side panel
options or the right click mouse button option to open the file.

The other thing that I think would help users is the menu item I
mentioned in my other message--having the option to move (or copy or
create a symlink) a file or folder by right clicking the icon, then
traversing the file tree through a series of sub panels until the new
location is found. This would eliminate having to open a second window
to drag and drop and for folks with smaller monitors it'd be a great
help.
