In GNOME 1.4 (RHL 7.3 + up2date + Ximian stable):
R-mouse-down, R-mouse-up : just displays menu
R-mouse-down, (heartbeat), R-mouse-up : selects first menu item
i.e. If some ( < 1 sec ? ) time interval is exceeded (e.g. slow/loaded
computer would mimic this), the first item is selected in e.g.
gnome-terminal.
I haven't had a chance to check whether this behavior persists in GNOME
