Semi-annual bug nag

Hey guys I churned through nautilus bugzilla last nite looking for bugs
that could potentially be closed. Anyway here's a list i came up with.
Maints, can I pretty please have your opinions on these if you have a
chance, take your time if your busy (I know freeze is only a few days
away). Oh and everyone else feel free to chime in as well.

can't build Nautilus if Bonobo and ORBit are installed in separate
prefixes

doesn't package config solve this problem?

Components should be able to merge preferences

This may have made sense at one time, but with our new preferences
layout, and integration in to the control center as file manager
preferences, i just don't think this make sense anymore. One thing that
would be nice would be the ability for components to monitor nautilus
gconf keys for certain preferences (click mode, comes to mind). wontfix?

consider having a case-sensitive sort by name

I can see the relative merit in having case sensitive sort, I just can't
see a way of integrating it into nautilus without adding a global
preference "case sensitive arrange by name." The main problem is how
sorting is done in the list view, and I think we should keep the sort
options consistent between the list and icons view. Should there be a
global preference or is this won't fix?

no way to show the properties for the top level

Forgive my ignorance, but does showing the properties for the top level
dirctory, "/", make sense in unix? Only suggestion I have is to add a
system (choose a better term) launcher icon to the desktop who's
properties reflect those of "/" although I'm not sure if thats a good
idea or not?

[Eazel Fixme]sidebar title & info use same color

I fail to understand how this is a bug, we follow gtk themes this is
surely good enough.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46284
Perhaps put Back/Forward in background context menu?

The context menu is already getting pretty big. One particular problem
with this suggestion is that the desktop and window context menu would
be different as navigation on the desktop makes no sense at all. Note,
neither explore nor finder have navigation arrows in their context menus
to my knowledge.

selection rectangle color should adapt to the background color

We're theme compliant now, shouldn't that be enough?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48181
bad: cannot display file name which is in multibyte

doesn't pango fix this?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48531
(feature req.) Missing "Cleanup Wizard" feature of MS Windows XP
Explorer

We don't suffer from the usability flaws that make this necessary on
windows. I should also add that in the next edition of the hig, we will
most likely add a section the proclaims the desktop as user space only
and prohibits apps from adding launchers etc. to the desktop. Basically
I see this as an unneeded feature.

----------------------------------------------------------
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61077
no way to define a embedded_text_rectangle for SVG icons

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61078
mixed bitmap/vector (SVG) icon for multiple zoom levels
----------------------------------------------------------
I know a lot of work was done on librsvg, just wondering if these had
happened to be fixed. if not should i move these bugs to a different
component?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=65239
some SVG files get bitmap thumbnails, others don't

Doesn't the thumbnail standard cover this? Should it be moved to
libgnomeui?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=73051
nautilus should be able to be the file selector in any application

Based on the "Captains of Nautilus" article I'm assuming this is won't
fix, but thought i should ask first.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81411
Should be able to modify the contents of the right-click context menu
with scripts

James has a patch to do this with bonobo components which is probably a
better solution. wontfix?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=83327
File operations appear on all workspaces

This only occurs when doing file manager operations on the desktop. I
think it actually sort of makes that these operations appear on all
workspaces as the desktop is the same for all of them. opinions?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=84718
The DND animation for desktop folder icons is horrible.

I think this is notabug. This bug refers to how folders open when
dragging items into them. For most themes this works fine, notable
exception is the sierra theme, which apparently has a jagged switch.
This at most a theme bug, but as these themes are basically unmaintained
i think we should just close this one.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=89857
Too many files warning box about /dev

There is a gconf preference to turn off the max file limit, wontfix?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90262
Inconsistency in the way RGBA colors are specified

Old nautilus themes bug, wontfix?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=91175
Give 'New' options on desktop right click menu it's own menu.

Wants all the desktop context menu new items to be in a submenu. I can
see where he's coming from (you know my opinion on this issue) but the
hig states that context menus shouldn't have submenus, wontfix?

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95429
Cannot rename a file with input methods

Fixed on head, reporter wants to know if this will be ported back to
2.0.x? I'm assuming it won't but thought I should check before closing.

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=96014
Search functionality should be added back to Nautilus

It never was really removed. Just needs medusa up and running. Notabug?

Preference bugs fixed by new design

Alex/dave do you guys object to me closing these once the new design is
committed to cvs?
