Nautilus and unicode

Hello
I've compiled gnome2.0.0 using garnome
The problem is that Nautilus does not show chars like: à è é ...
and the file name apperas like:
identit?.ext (invalid Unicode)
instead of
identità.ext
Do I miss some library or what else?
